YNPN Advocacy
There are many issues facing the emerging generation of nonprofit leaders: less competetive wages than the for-profit sector in combination with high student loan debts and rising costs of living; generational shirts causing miscommunication and frustration; the inheritance of a relatively young sector grappling with increased demand for transparency and competition for funding; a struggle between a generation who values personal time and a sector seemingly set up to burn workers out.

YNPN Denver recognizes that aside from networking and professional development opportunities, our members are looking for ways to leverage our collective voice. One of the first steps towards enhancing the presence an impact of our voices is ensuring young people have a seat at the table where decisions are being made that affect the future of the sector.

As we place more of a focus on increasing the engagement of young people in the sector, we ask you to join us in opening these doors. Oftentimes luncheons, conferences, Boards or Directors, and other bodies of leadership overlook potential participants and members who are younger and less experienced. Help us be our own best advocates! Do you work for an organization which hosts an event or gathering from which you think young people would benefit? Speak with your organization's leadership about setting aside some spots at a reduced price for YNPN members. Is your organization looking to diversify its Board of Directors or staff leadership? Suggest age diversity as a sometime overlooked option. If you have suggestions or ideas to help encourage YNPN members' engagement in our community, please contact Lydia McCoy at mccoy.lydia@tchden.org.
